Photography in the early days of QRW concentrated upon winery scenes, like the interior of Barry and Audrey Sterling's home at Iron Horse Vineyards in Sebastopol, California, and the front door of Buena Vista’s historic Stone Press House. QRW then moved to personality photos, like “The French Chef,” the late Julia Child, and mystery writer Robert Parker, who revels in the world of food and wine. Jim Scherer, specialist in food photography and Julia Child’s favorite professional photographer, was also our photographer in those early days; he returned to the magazine last year to create more arresting and complex studio compositions for our front covers.
